Lefty and the X Trail
By Ron Mc Coy
…sometimes your best boots just don’t measure up!
In the year 2000 a new six mile trail to Versailles State Park was opened. I’d been told that it would be open for sure in the spring, so on the Friday before Memorial Day, figuring it would be open by now, Karen and I decided to check it out….

You might want to ride there and then pull on up to Hickory Ridge to camp. When you are Jackson-Washington you are only an hour, maybe a little bit more from the Hoosier National….
Riding the Clark
By: Author Unknown
Rising at Clark State Forest near Henryville in the southern part of Indiana can be a fun time. There are many trails and some are classified as “easy”
However, many of the trails are pretty tough on horses that are not in good shape so unless you feel like walking you really need to have the horses in good shape. Fall riding is the most impressive after some of the leaves start to fall, you can see for miles from the ridgetops.
There are lots of hills at Clark. Seems either you are going up or down. The Shaw Trail is a favorite. The Wilderness Trail is also a great ride and the two together make for a great afternoon
Here are the official descriptions of the trails….

The longest trail is 19 miles long and a really good ride. The campground has a pad for parking trailers, water and posts for picket lines. But electric, no showers. Pit Toilets are available….

Riding Versailles
By: Ron McCoy
Versailles State Park is the second largest state park in Indiana with 5988 acres of property. It is quite scenic and the terrain varies from old overgrown fields and flat woods to some steep hills and hollows. Day riding only is available at this time but we are hopeful that overnight camping for horsemen will happen in the future. The state has run a 6 inch water line to the proposed camp location and this camp is in the master plan….
