The horse campground in the park has 18 camping sites, all with hitching posts. Out of these 4 have electric. There is 1 handicap site accessable also with electric. There are 2 male and 2 female outdoor bathrooms at the campsites with more at the main campground. There is also a shower site at the main campground just a ¼ mile away or so. There is one water spigot in the campground to water horses. This horse campground is located next to the beginning of a very nice 15 mile scenic trail. This is the main trail for the park with many outlaw trails that have been made by riders over the last two decades. At about the halfway mark there is an outdoor bathroom. The main trail itself winds through woods above the lake and at one point you can ride down to a beach to water horses or take a break and rest your buns. There is also a scenic lookout just south of beach with picnic tables and hitching post, a very nice place to have lunch or a snack. Wolf Creek is in east central Illinois-just minutes from Springfield, Decatur, Champaign and Effingham. Directions: From Effingham, take Highway 32 north for 35 miles and follow the signs to Wolf Creek State Park. From Decatur, take Highway 121 south for 17 miles and follow the signs to Wolf Creek State Park.
