Riding Wolf Creek

By: Author Unknown

The horse campground in the park has 18 camping sites,
all with hitching posts. Out of these 4 have electric.

There is 1 handicap site accessable also with electric.
There are 2 male and 2 female outdoor bathrooms at the
campsites with more at the main campground.

There is also a shower site at the main campground just
a ¼ mile away or so. There is one water spigot in the
campground to water horses. This horse campground is
located next to the beginning of a very nice 15 mile
scenic trail.

This is the main trail for the park with many outlaw
trails that have been made by riders over the last two
decades.

At about the halfway mark there is an outdoor bathroom.

The main trail itself winds through woods above the
lake and at one point you can ride down to a beach to
water horses or take a break and rest your buns.

There is also a scenic lookout just south of beach with
picnic tables and hitching post, a very nice place to
have lunch or a snack.

Wolf Creek is in east central Illinois-just minutes
from Springfield, Decatur, Champaign and Effingham.

Directions:
From Effingham, take Highway 32 north for 35 miles and
follow the signs to Wolf Creek State Park.

From Decatur, take Highway 121 south for 17 miles and
follow the signs to Wolf Creek State Park.
