Maumee Horse Camp is a small, commercial, campground, 5 sites with electricity and primitive sites as well. Maumee Horsemen's Campground is owned by Rod and Jean Hilldebrand, this is not to be confused with the Maumee Boy Scout Campground located in the Hoosier National Forest off of Tower Ridge Road past the tower. You can call Rod and Jean at: 812-995-8812 to make reservations. Directions to the campground: Take SR 58 from 446 to Norman, turn left on 58 in Norman to Kurtz (5 miles). From Maumee you can ride the Nebo trail, exceptionally beautiful trail to ride after the leaves have fallen because you can see for miles. The trail follows a long ridge and since you have to cross Salt Creek to get to the trail from Maumee it is best to do it when the creek is low in the fall. This trail also takes you to Story, a nice little place to eat, and on into the Brown Co. State Park where you can ride to the Horsemen's campground. You will need to have tags from both the state and federal if you ride from the Hoosier National into the State Parks or State Forests. Nebo Ridge is in the Hoosier National Forest down past Kurtz. There is a small campground called Maumee Horsemen's Campground that you can stay at and ride out to Nebo Ridge or onto the other Hickory Ridge trails from there. Directions to Nebo. Directions to Trailhead: From Columbus: Travel west on IN 46 for 13 miles to IN 135 south. Take SR 135 south, 9 miles to Story. Veer off SR 135 at the Story Inn (this is Elkinsville Road, but it is unmarked). Travel 2.7 miles and pass a gravel road on your right. Take the left bend in the road and cross a bridge. Go 0.3 miles then turn left into the parking area. This newly constructed parking area was paid for with trail access fees. Parking is available at the north trailhead between Elkinsville and Story. Do not camp at the trailhead, Parking for trailers is extremely limited and may not be available if others are using the parking lot.
