Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore: Horseback riding is permitted only on the Ly-co-ki-we Trail, located on U.S. Highway 20, 1/4 mile west of Kemil Road near Hwy 49 and Chesterton, Indiana. There is no charge for bringing your horse into the ark. Ly-co-ki-we roughly translated from the Miami Indian language means, sandy ground. The trail was mostly firm sand, with some dune-like conditions in places. It is a very narrow trail, just wide enough for one horse, but there were very few low branches along the way. Unfortunately, it is not a very long trail, only about 3 1/2 to 4 miles, and it does not take you near the shores of Lake Michigan. This information was compiled by the crack research team at HorsebackRidingArticles.com. It is by no means complete. We have tried to be as accurate as possible.
