The Cardinal Greenway is part of the American Discovery Trail, rail trail that is 70 miles long. It is under construction, so not all of the trail is complete. Also, not all is open to horses.

The 10 mile section that runs from downtown Muncie to the Henry county line (10 miles) is complete.

The trail will eventually run from Richmond to Gaston. Only 4 miles has a separate treadway for horses, starting at Medford and ending at country road 650 south. It has a connector trail of .7 miles that leads trails to the equestrian trails open on the Prairie Creek Res., south of Muncie….

Hilly Hollow is a small riding area in Vermilion County, Indiana

Hilly Hollow is actually Jerry Hill’s farm and you can ride there anytime. He has a nice pond, trails around his place and in the woods.

There are people who camp there but there aren’t really any spots available that you could count on being open.

There was a horse trailer camped there Sunday….

Rising at Clark State Forest near Henryville in the southern part of Indiana can be a fun time. There are many trails and some are classified as “easy”

However, many of the trails are pretty tough on horses that are not in good shape so unless you feel like walking you really need to have the horses in good shape. Fall riding is the most impressive after some of the leaves start to fall, you can see for miles from the ridgetops.

There are lots of hills at Clark. Seems either you are going up or down. The Shaw Trail is a favorite. The Wilderness Trail is also a great ride and the two together make for a great afternoon

Here are the official descriptions of the trails….

Riding in Spain

This video, over 4 minutes, was done with a “Helmut cam” so it bounces a little.

We all know about Spain, many of us can find it on the map. But we probably don’t think much about what it would be like to ride a horse there.

It might look like more fun that where you ride, then again, maybe not. You decide.

As always, we here at Horseback Riding Articles are happy to post your articles about trail riding, and now, especially happy to post videos, both “How To” and “Oh My! ”

German Ridge is in the Hoosier National Forest south of Bloomington, Indiana.

The trails are nice and using a stacked loop system so you can ride an hour, 2 or 4 or so on. They are well marked and maintained.

The longest trail is 19 miles long and a really good ride. The campground has a pad for parking trailers, water and posts for picket lines. But electric, no showers. Pit Toilets are available….
